There’s nothing quite like starting the new year with a bang – or more specifically, a seriously cool barmitzvah party – which is exactly what we were treated to celebrating Shalom’s coming-of-age recently at the Village Hotel, Bury.

But before then, there was the small matter of Shalom’s call-up, which he handled with aplomb at the Vine Street Synagogue, followed by a family portrait session in Broughton Park.

But really, this was all just build-up to the main event, a huge party full of dancing, laughter, excitement and atmosphere.

I do love a bouncing dancefloor, and at Shalom’s it was never anything less than full, with so much action going on for me to capture that the evening just flew by.

So without further ado, allow me to present to you a selection of my images from the big barmitzvah weekend:

Awesome Little Behind-The-Scenes Video!! http://www.robclaytonphotography.co.uk/blog/2018/1/AwesomeLittleBehind-The-ScenesVideo Check out this awesome little client-made video I was sent last night, of a family shoot I did in the run-up to Tilly's batmitzvah this weekend....it was shot and edited by Tilly's hugely talented and creative sister, Molly, who managed to film our shoot without me having any idea what she was planning to produce. And who surely has a very bright future in film production, should she choose to follow such a path. As you can see, a lot of fun was had on the shoot, which saw us start at the family home before heading out to Heaton Park to wrap things up.....

Rob Clayton Photography - 2017 Bar-Batmitzvah Photography Highlights http://www.robclaytonphotography.co.uk/blog/2017/12/rob-clayton-photography---2017-bar-batmitzvah-photography-highlights

A couple of months ago I photographed several grown men dressed as Peter Pan delivering a barmitzvah speech. It’s been one of those years, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

From the early-morning call-ups to the wild parties of the night, I’ve had the pleasure of photographing lots of great functions in 2017.

I struggle to tell whether its just my perception that has changed, or traditions themselves, but I'm sure such parties were never quite so fun when I was younger!

And as always, I’ve thrived on capturing all the action, the atmosphere, the excitement and the emotions of such events, and am always pushing myself to create even better art for my clients.

But as a photographer I naturally think visuals are better than verbals, so without further ado, I’m delighted to present to you my 2017 bar-batmitzvah photography highlight reel (ps see if you can spot me in one of the most subtle of 'selfies'):

Rob Clayton Photography - 2017 Wedding Photography Highlights http://www.robclaytonphotography.co.uk/blog/2017/12/rob-clayton-photography---2017-wedding-photography-highlights

Choosing just a selection of highlights for this here blog entry was not an easy task. In truth, I feel I could’ve created another ten highlight blog entries without any noticeable drop-off in quality, but for any number of reasons – some obvious, some less so – these are the images that have personally stood out to me the most.

2017 has been an amazing professional year for me, seeing me traveling up and down the country photographing beautiful weddings and awesome couples in so many stunning locations.

I’ve met lots of people along the year, both in the industry and out, and its been great to get reacquainted with some old faces. I have also worked alongside some awesome photographers again this year, who have inspired me probably more than they realize, and hope to continue building on those working relationships.

In terms of my own images, I feel my development from the previous year has continued through this last. I am always trying to improve every aspect of my photographs, from the timing, to the lighting, to the composition, and feel as creative, inspired and motivated today as the day I started on my photographic path some 8 or 9 years ago.

I love photographing weddings. I love capturing the huge range of emotions everyone feels on their big day, all the drama that goes with it, and of course, all the action, whether it’s the big walk down the aisle, the mascara being retouched during dinner, or the bride and groom being thrown several feet in the air on a (presumably reinforced??) tablecloth. Its my job to capture it all, and I positively thrive in doing so.

So without further ado, allow me to present to you my 2017 wedding photography highlights:

Olivia & Daniel's Wedding - Hilton Hotel Liverpool http://www.robclaytonphotography.co.uk/blog/2017/12/olivia-daniels-wedding---hilton-hotel-liverpool

Olivia and Daniel celebrated their beautiful wedding at the Hilton Hotel, Liverpool.

But before then – a couple of months before then, actually – the three of us headed to Formby Beach for a quick engagement shoot.

Engagement sessions are a great opportunity to get used to having your picture taken, and photographing such a relaxed couple in such a beautiful setting made my job super easy for me.

And then we were on to the main event, where I started early at Olivia’s notably laid-back bridal prep, before joining Daniel and his groomsmen as they got ready for the big day ahead.

The wedding ceremony itself was beautiful and before we knew it the couple were making their way onto the dancefloor through a colourful shower of confetti.

I started the photographic journey covering various sporting events, and very much maintain my action photography tendencies, so the raucous Israeli dancing was right up my street and a lot of fun to throw myself into the mix of it with my camera.

Special mention must go to Olivia’s little nephew, who threatened to steal the show with not one, but two hearty renditions of Yellow Submarine during the course of the evening, getting all the adults off their chairs and on their feet, singing along with him. Seriously one of the cutest things I’ve seen at a wedding!

I also managed to sneak out with the couple during the evening for a couple of extra pictures of the newlyweds, and made use of the Hilton Hotel’s fairy-light-strewn staircase to create an intergalactic-style image (of sorts). Something a bit different, at least.

But really, when the couple are so fun together, and their friends and family are so well and truly up for a great party, the night is pretty much set. And so it proved to be, with the dancefloor full and bouncing right to the very end.

Another huge, huge congrats to the happy couple!

Here is but a selection of pictures from their wedding, and engagement session beforehand:

Pinkus Batmitzvah - Innside Hotel, Manchester http://www.robclaytonphotography.co.uk/blog/2017/12/pinkus-batmitzvah---innside-hotel-manchester

Sasha celebrated her batmitzvah with an awesome party at the Innside Hotel, Manchester.

With a bonfire night theme for the night, there were lots of treats for everyone in attendance, from the hot roasted chestnuts cart to the popcorn-candy floss combo stand, and from face-painting to a caricaturist, to name just a few.

And then there was the absolutely pumping dancefloor, which starting bouncing as soon as Sasha was called in to make her entrance, and didn’t let up the entire night.

When the hosts are so infectiously fun, and their friends so clearly up for a great night, you’re really on to a winner, and there was plenty of action going on at all times for me to capture, photographically speaking.

From being hoisted above the dancefloor on chairs in the more traditional batmitzvah style, to what almost felt like a rave at times, I think my pictures prove just how much fun everyone had.

Speaking of which, here is but a selection of my images from the big night, and another big mazal tov to Sasha and her family!!

Tamara & Jake's Wedding - Willington Hall, Cheshire http://www.robclaytonphotography.co.uk/blog/2017/11/tamara-jakes-wedding---willington-hall-cheshire

What better way to celebrate the wedding of an awesome couple than with an awesome party in a tipi??

Which is exactly how Tamara and Jake tied the knot at Cheshire’s Willington Hall.

As always, my day started early, photographing Tamara during her bridal prep, before joining the groom for his prep with his fine groomsmen.

The weather struggled to make up its mind on this particular day, jeopardizing the possibility of an outdoor wedding on more than one occasion.

But with just minutes to go before their ceremony – and Debbie Marks and her team from Qube Events on-hand to quickly assemble a ceremony area at the entrance to the tipi – the skies cleared and the sun even made an appearance, gifting Tamara her wish of an outdoor service.

The sun remained in place while I took a few pictures of the happy couple as they went for a romantic walk on the grounds of Willington Hall, before everyone made their way into the tipis for a raucous and spirited round of Israeli dancing.

If I come off the dancefloor covered in sweat (mmmmm!), chances are its been a good’un, and at Tamara and Jake’s I was positively drenched.

Speeches are good times for me as a photographer, especially when the people making them get as good a reception as they did here, keeping the smiles and laughs on everyone’s faces.

And I often say how important an atmosphere can be, so it was a true testament to the warmth and spirit of everyone in attendance when an impromptu sing-a-long occurred after dinner, with everyone getting dutifully swept up in the fun.

A sparkler exit awaited the newlyweds later in the evening, as did the opportunity to toast their own marshmallows on a fire. Every wedding should have toasted marshmallows. There, I said it.

But it was no surprise at all to me that the dancefloor was still full and pumping come the end of the night - even grandma was still rocking it – and it was a fitting tribute to a beautiful couple.

Here is but a selection of my images from the big day:

Sam's Barmitzvah - Broughton Park, Manchester http://www.robclaytonphotography.co.uk/blog/2017/11/sams-barmitzvah---broughton-park-manchester

Sam celebrated his Apple/apple-themed barmitzvah with a truly awesome party in the most stunning marquee at his home.

But before then, it was off to one of my favourite shooting locations – Broughton Park in Salford – for some family shots in the week leading up to his big day.

I’ve always loved Broughton Park, having spent a rather inordinate amount of time there as a teen, and that I get to return to it so often for my work pleases me no end.

As I mentioned, the barmitzvah itself had an apple theme, both the fruit and the technology. This was visualized as the famous Steve Jobs-Apple logo, except with Sam’s silhouette in place of Mr Jobs’, which was found everywhere from the invitations to the seating board (well, mirror), and the matchboxes to the table-placings.

I have photographed many of Sam’s friends’ barmitzvahs over the years, not to mention his sisters’ batmitzvah, and knew the bar was set rather high. But they smashed it and then some, with such a warm, energetic atmosphere that didn’t let up the whole night.

The Israeli dancing was manic, chaotic, full throttle, and just a whole lot of fun, and even the silent disco in the middle of dinner had the dancefloor full…..a funny experience to observe without the headphones on.

Special mention to both of Sam’s grandpa’s, who both proved themselves worthy of an 8-Mile-style rap scene, as well as the Peter Pan-clad young gentlemen performing a song/speech.

But really, the night belonged to Sam and his family, and with the night closing while the dancefloor was still jam packed, it was a fitting end to an unbelievable night of celebration.

Here is but a selection of my images from the night:

Aviva & Jake's Wedding - The Midland Hotel, Manchester http://www.robclaytonphotography.co.uk/blog/2017/10/aviva-jake---the-midland-hotel-manchester

Aviva and Jake celebrated their beautiful wedding at Manchester’s famous Midland Hotel.

I have actually had connections with Aviva’s family for some years now, having worked alongside her mum at various points in the past (even photographing her hilarious little routine on-stage at The Comedy Store a while back!). In fact, I had to do a little digging on my phone, but found this picture of myself and Joyce that we took at the end of our meeting to discuss my possibly shooting Aviva’s wedding. It’s a definite keeper!!

On top of all that, I also photographed Aviva’s sister’s wedding last year, so I almost feel like part of the furniture now, as the Artful one may say.

My day started as always at the bridal prep, which all took place in Aviva’s parents’ apartment. From my point of view, I always want my pictures to be an accurate and fair reflection of the wedding day unfolding in front of me, and with so much light in the apartment, that’s how I wanted my pictures to feel at this stage (whether I achieved that or not is for others to decide!).

Special mention also to Aviva’s super-cute little nephew, who found a great game hiding lego pieces in unusual places. Looked fun!

Then it was off to catch the end of Jake's groom prep, before making our way to the city centre, to one of my favourite Manchester hotels to shoot in (and around!), where I caught up with Jake and his side of the family, themselves equally warm and welcoming.

And from the moment the singing started in the tisch, followed by the walk full of spirit to the bedeken room, the atmosphere never let up all the way through the day and night.

The ceremony itself was beautiful, and before we knew it we were stood under the arches by the Central Library (a favourite location of mine), taking a few snaps of the newlyweds.

The evening party lived up to expectation and then some, with so much going on at all times that I really had to stay on my toes. The dancefloor was positively bouncing (and swinging, and jumping, and all the rest), the speaches both amusing and meaningful, and all in all everyone just had a truly unbelievable time.

So here for your viewing pleasure is a selection of my images from the big day.

Another huge, huge mazal tov to the happy couple!!

Gabby & David's Wedding - The Radisson Blu Hotel, Manchester Airport http://www.robclaytonphotography.co.uk/blog/2017/10/gabby-davids-wedding---the-radisson-blu-hotel-manchester-airport

Gabby and David were married with a beautiful ceremony at the Shaare Zedek Synagogue before heading off to celebrate in style at Manchester Airport’s Radisson Blu Hotel.

And it was at the hotel where my day started, photographing Gabby getting ready at her bridal prep. I always enjoy the contrast of the relative calmness of the bridal prep, compared to what comes later on in the day, and the variety of scenarios I have to shoot in is just another reason I love being a wedding photographer.

Before I knew it, I was off to the Bull’s Head to catch the end of David’s groom prep, before we all made our way over the road to the synagogue for the tish, bedeken and ceremony.

With a string quartet playing as Gabby walked down the aisle, and little pageboys and flower girls lining the front of the chuppah, the setting couldn’t have been more befitting of such a perfect couple.

With the ceremony over and the formal family photographs in the bag, I took a short little walk with the couple to what I can only describe as a random-but-rather-pretty walkway next to the synagogue, to get some pictures of the couple surrounded by greenery in an otherwise fairly concrete area.

And then we were off back to the Radisson Blu, where the celebrations really got underway.

Atmosphere’s make parties, and the entire evening it didn’t let up, offering a particularly warm and friendly environment to be snapping away in.

And once dinner was out of the way, I even managed to sneak upstairs with the couple for a few quick photographs in the tunnel connecting the hotel with the airport itself.

All in all, it was a truly beautiful day and evening, and a huge congrats to the happy couple.

Alex & Matt's Wedding Reception - Pryors Hayes Golf Club, Chester http://www.robclaytonphotography.co.uk/blog/2017/9/alex-matts-wedding-reception---pryors-hayes-golf-club-chester

After marrying abroad, Alex and Matt asked me to photograph their homecoming wedding reception at the Pryors Hayes Golf Club in Chester.

And having got most of the usual wedding-day formalities already out of the way, it meant that everyone could focus on the very serious business of partying the day and night away!

Before arriving at the golf club, I managed to get in a few quick portraits of the happy couple at the rather splendid DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, Chester, which provided a perfectly picturesque backdrop for us to take advantage of.

And the golf club itself was also a great venue (can’t go wrong with the greenery of a golf course!), and when we were afforded a hint of sunshine underneath the clouds, I wasn’t one to turn down such a photo opportunity and got the newlyweds out onto the golf course for a couple of sunset silhouettes.

All in all, a lot of fun was had by all, and another huge congrats to Alex and Matt!

Cohen Barmitzvah - Holy Law Hebrew Congregation, Prestwich http://www.robclaytonphotography.co.uk/blog/2017/9/cohen-barmitzvah---holy-law-hebrew-congregation-prestwich

As much as I love new customers, so too I love repeat clients.

Apart from the acknowledgment that the first job must’ve been a success to some degree or other, I also get to approach the work already knowing the people that I’ll be photographing, adding another level of enjoyment for me personally.

And so it was at Sholly’s barmitzvah, having previously photographed his brother’s a couple of years ago, and so I already knew I was in for a good night.

Due to the inclement weather conditions (or as its better known, traditional Manchester weather), we abandoned our plans for a family shoot in the park beforehand and settled on the Holy Law Hebrew Congregation instead, before making our way through to the main function hall for the celebrations to really begin.

Now, considering people were to be up the next morning at 7am for Sholly’s actual call-up, it really was impressive to see everyone singing and dancing until the very end of the evening.

Atmosphere’s can make a party, and at Sholly’s it was warm, relaxed and a lot of fun.

And true to form, Sholly didn’t let the previous night’s antics put him off his stride the following morning, with a perfect rendition of his piece.

Another huge mazal tov to Sholly and all the Cohen family!!

Deborah & Eli's Wedding - Worsley Marriott Hotel, Worsley http://www.robclaytonphotography.co.uk/blog/2017/8/deborah-elis-wedding---worsley-marriott-hotel-worsley

I love my job, and getting to photograph such beautiful and fun weddings as Deborah and Eli’s is one of the main reasons I do so.

Held at the Worsley Marriott – a hotel I have been to previously for both professional and leisurely purposes – the entire day couldn’t have gone more perfectly, from the glorious weather for the outdoor ceremony, to the pumping dancefloor at the end of the night, and everything in between.

From my angle as the photographer, the bridal prep always feels like the calm before the storm, and so it did at Deborah’s, which seemed particularly laid-back and relaxed, and really set the tone for the day ahead.

The lush grounds of the hotel, and the accompanying golf course, sure makes for a plethora of picture opportunities (sorry, always wanted to use that adjective, but its used well I feel!), and I think it would’ve been wasteful not to take advantage, particularly with the accompaniment of such beautiful weather as well.

I feel I should also say how much I love outdoor weddings!

From my point of view, there just feels there’s so much more freedom to move around without disturbing anyone, and almost invariably more angles for me to explore.

And when I’m having such fun shooting, the time flies and before I knew it, the ceremony was over and we were on to the family pictures, before then heading off inside where the serious business of parting truly started.

I had been told before the wedding that the groom, Eli, was of a more reserved nature, and as that’s pretty much exactly how I’d describe myself, I was somewhat surprised to see him (metaphorically) hit the dancefloor pretty darn hard. Especially once the trance music came on. I was assured by Deborah that he was just in his element, but even so, an impressively energetic showing nonetheless!

The speeches themselves were both sweet and funny, and the guests warm and welcoming the entire day and night.

All in all, it really was a perfect day for a perfect couple!

Adam & Shulamit's Wedding - Finchley United Synagogue, London http://www.robclaytonphotography.co.uk/blog/2017/8/adam-shulamits-wedding---finchley-united-synagogue-london

Adam and Shulamit celebrated their amazing wedding at the Finchley United Synagogue with one of the most energetic, fun and exuberant set of friends I’ve ever photographed.

As always, my day started early at the bridal prep, photographing Shulamit getting ready in her parents’ home.

The advantage to getting ready in a place that’s personal to the bride is that I can find meaningful things to photograph that I may not otherwise have ever seen. So, for instance, when I saw Shulamit’s oldest teddy bear all tucked up nice and cosy in bed, you can bet I was going to snap a quick shot off.

Once Shulamit was dressed and ready to go, I was off to find Adam for a few quick family pictures, before making our way over the road from the hotel to the Finchley United Synagogue.

It was my first time at the synagogue, and very impressed was I. The main room is both huge and beautiful, with magnificent stained-glass windows all the way along one side. And the rest of the building is surprisingly huge too, comfortably accommodating a mighty impressive turnout for a weeknight!

The tish (a Jewish wedding custom where the men gather before the ceremony for a whiskey and sing-along) and the walk to the bedeken (where the bride awaits the groom, who pulls the veil over her face) are always the first real indications of what the atmosphere will really be like throughout the rest of day, and at Adam and Shulamits the singing and dancing that had already started really set the tone.

The ceremony itself was beautiful, with contributions from a wide range of people meaningful to the happy couple.

And then on to the pre-dinner reception, where it seemed the guests didn’t want to wait until the official music started during the actual dinner time, and spontaneously had an impromptu and thoroughly enthusiastic round of Israeli dancing right there and then. There’s no substituting great spirit.

For pictures of just the couple, there was no way I couldn’t use the main room for a few, before we headed out and got some very refreshing fresh air for a few quick natural light shots.

And then it was on to the mania of the dancefloor. I of course mean that in the best possible way, giving me so much action, and so many great, intense expressions to capture, I was positively in my element. Needless to say, I came off that dancefloor a touch sweatier than I had gone on to it. Mmmmm.

Not that I could rest for a moment, though, for before Shulamit’s father was allowed to say the first words of his speech, the entire top table had been surrounded by Adam and Shulamit’s friends, who apparently weren’t quite done with the singing and dancing (again, despite the lack of actual, official music).

I always say that a good atmosphere can elevate an event to something special, and so it was here, where nothing let up the entire night. Indeed, the scene at the end of the night was an awesome sight to behold, with both families sat together in the middle of an absolutely packed dancefloor, surrounded by friends who were all taking part in a truly heartfelt sing-along.

I can’t offer a big enough mazal tov to the newly weds!!

Here is but a selection of my images from the day:

Debbie & Robert's Wedding - The Midland Hotel, Manchester http://www.robclaytonphotography.co.uk/blog/2017/8/debbie-roberts-wedding---the-midland-hotel-manchester

There are times when an atmosphere is so palpable that you can practically feel it in a physical sense.

And so it was at Rob and Debbie’s awesome wedding, where the atmosphere was so tangible that I actually said to the happy couple immediately after their ceremony that it felt like their friends were just waiting to hit the dancefloor and be let off their leashes. And so it was.

Held at the Midland Hotel, Manchester, my day started early, photographing Debbie during her relaxed bridal prep in the spacious Midland suite, before joining Rob and his best men for their respective preps.

I have photographed many weddings at the Midland Hotel, and do consider it a favourite, not just for its beautiful décor, but also for the numerous picturesque settings right outside the hotel.

In fact, after their beautiful ceremony, we took advantage of those very settings, and even managed to find the sun peaking through the pillars, pleasing me no end.

And then it was on to the mayhem of the dancefloor. If I do no other exercise all week, I feel the 20 minutes or so before dinner was served – trying to keep up with so much going on around me – was enough to keep me (relatively) fit for at least another week or so.

But really, its these action-packed times I like to think I thrive in, and really try to pick up on the vibrancy, the atmosphere, the joy, the release and the excitement in my pictures.

Special mention also to Creation Musical Services, who absolutely rocked the place in a manner truly fitting such a great crowd.

All in all, it was a perfect day, from start to finish, and I can’t offer the newlyweds a big enough congratulations!

Coleman Barmitzvah - The Hilton Suite, Prestwich http://www.robclaytonphotography.co.uk/blog/2017/7/coleman-barmitzvah---the-hilton-suite-prestwich

Zalman celebrated his barmitzvah at what feels like my second home, the Hilton Suite in Prestwich.

And having photographed his brother’s party a couple of years ago, I knew I was in for a good night…..and it certainly didn’t disappoint.

We started early in the afternoon at Broughton Park for a family portrait session, before moving on. I’ve always loved Broughton Park, having spent my teenage years hanging around in it, walking through it every day on my way back from school, and just generally feeling very at-home there. So its quite fitting that it has become one of my favourite places to conduct such portrait sessions.

After that, it was on to the celebrations, which took off as soon as Zalman entered the room through a plethora of confetti and immediately hit the dancefloor.

I have said countless times how atmospheres can really make a party, so when its as electric as it was at Zalman’s, you can rest assured everyone in attendance had a really great time.

A huge Mazal Tov to the whole Coleman family, not least of all Zalman himself!

Here is but a selection of my images from the day/evening:

Ilana & Adam's Wedding - Hilton Hotel, Manchester http://www.robclaytonphotography.co.uk/blog/2017/6/ilana-adam---hilton-hotel-manchester

Ilana and Adam celebrated their beautiful wedding at the Hilton Hotel in Manchester city centre.

As always, my day started early, photographing the lovely Ilana and her bridesmaids during the bridal prep. As a photographer, I can often get a sense of the day ahead by the atmosphere during the bridal preperations, so its always great to see everyone looking so relaxed and ready to enjoy the day ahead by the time I arrive.

And this theme continued as I joined Adam and his groomsmen as they underwent their grooms prep in another part of the hotel. I even managed to get them outside for a few minutes before the weather became a bit more problematic.

The ceremony itself, led by Ilana’s step-father, was beautiful and before we knew it, the happy couple were married and it was on to a few quick pictures of the newlyweds. Now, I have photographed countless functions and events at the Hilton, but rarely on a day quite as windy as this was. And typically, when I think ‘windy day’, I think long flowing veils and/or dramatic wind-swept hair dancing in the breeze. But such was the strength of the gusts I actually feared for the safety of the veil, and so we remained indoors to take advantage of the hotel’s features.

And then it was on to the proper action of the dancefloor, where there was so much going on it was my challenge just to keep up. But really, all I want is to be able to capture everyone having the most fun, so I couldn’t have been happier right in the centre, taking the occasional bump if it meant that much more immediacy in my pictures.

The speeches were also great, and as often happens, I found myself laughing along with all the guests at numerous points during the evening (whilst snapping away, of course!).

But all in all, it was a perfect day and night for a perfectly matched couple….another huge, huge congrats to Ilana and Adam!

Here is but a selection of images from their big day:

Salomon Barmitzvah - Hilton Suite, Prestwich, Manchester http://www.robclaytonphotography.co.uk/blog/2017/5/salomon-barmitzvah---hilton-suite-prestwich-manchester

I have been photographing barmitzvah parties since 2010, and have covered countless since then. But there was something a bit different - a bit special - about Shuey’s barmitzvah, which I’ve struggled a bit to definitively put my finger on.

Held at the Hilton Suite in Prestwich, I’m not sure whether it was the warmth of the guests to their hosts, the sing-a-longs that everyone joined in with, or just the atmosphere in general, but whatever it was, it made for a truly exceptional evening.

And when you consider it was a school night too, the energy levels on the dancefloor were quite a challenge to keep up with (a challenge I happily accepted, of course!).

And there haven’t been too many barmitzvahs that I have shot at where the guests get to toast their own marshmallows on the dancefloor! I have to admit, the smell of tasted marshmallows takes me right back to my teenage years (sigh), whether it was on Habonim summer camps, or over a fire at the back of a friend’s garden….great times.

Anyroad, my wistful nostalgia aside for a moment, I'd like to offer another huge, huge mazal tov to all the Salomons.

And now I am delighted to present to you but a selection of images from the night:

Darren & Natasha - Sandhole Oak Barn, Macclesfield http://www.robclaytonphotography.co.uk/blog/2017/5/darren-natasha---sandhole-oak-barn-macclesfield

As a wise groom once said to me, you can’t go around calling every wedding you photograph ‘awesome’, lest no one believe you any more.

And whilst there’s some truth to that, when your wedding is as awesome as Darren and Natasha’s really was, I’d argue it really can’t be helped!

Held at the beautiful purpose-built Sandhole Oak Barn wedding venue in Macclesfield, there are few things to make a wedding photographer happier than arriving at a new venue and discovering that its absolutely beautiful, surrounded by lush greenery from all sides, and a lake in the middle.

As always, my day started early, at the very busy bridal prep, where Natasha and her numerous bridesmaids got ready for the day ahead.

The completely relaxed atmosphere set the tone for the day, and it wasn’t long before Darren had arrived and undergone his somewhat shorter groom prep.

One thing that can’t be planned (at least, not here in Manchester!) was the weather, which saw the sun shining pretty much the entire day, and allowing everyone to enjoy the lovely surroundings after the ceremony.

And not one to miss an opportunity, I couldn’t resist getting Darren and Natasha to pop out during the sunset for a few lake-side shots….well worth the additional effort in my eyes!

But really, you know it’s a pretty special wedding with a pretty special atmosphere when, in the middle of dinner, pretty much the entire wedding party starts belting out songs with the band, most stood up on their chairs.

And credit must go to Creation Musical Services for not just getting the crowd going in the first place, but keeping the dancefloor packed the entire night!

All in all, a really amazing day, and a huge congrats to Darren and Natasha!

Goldblatt Barmitzvah - The Hilton Suite, Prestwich, Manchester http://www.robclaytonphotography.co.uk/blog/2017/4/goldblatt-barmitzvah---the-hilton-suite-prestwich-manchester

I made the (wise) decision early on in the evening not to embarrass myself on the strongman high striker in the reception, and with so much going on, its probably a good thing I didn’t.

Now, I have photographed countless barmitzvahs over the years, but I have to admit, when Joey was called into the main room, I was a confused man.

The words ‘Its time!’ probably don’t mean much to most others, but it’s a phrase I hear often. And it usually signals the start of something exciting. So, much like Pavlov’s dog, my adrenaline started pumping immediately, almost like a reflex action.

Those who know me know I have a soft spot for MMA. And the most famous voice in MMA is Bruce Buffer’s, the UFC’s fight announcer. And that was exactly who was announcing Joey into the room, with a personalized intro from the Voice of the Octagon himself. To put it mildly, I was impressed.

Fortunately, the action that immediately followed was also fast-paced, energetic and a lot of fun.

Indeed, considering it was held on a school night (yes, in my mid-30’s weekdays are still referred to as school nights), the atmosphere really was quite unbelievable, and didn’t let up at all until the very end.

A huge congrats to Joey and all the family.

And here for your viewing pleasure is just a selection of images from the evening:
