Sam celebrated his Apple/apple-themed barmitzvah with a truly awesome party in the most stunning marquee at his home.
But before then, it was off to one of my favourite shooting locations – Broughton Park in Salford – for some family shots in the week leading up to his big day.
I’ve always loved Broughton Park, having spent a rather inordinate amount of time there as a teen, and that I get to return to it so often for my work pleases me no end.
As I mentioned, the barmitzvah itself had an apple theme, both the fruit and the technology. This was visualized as the famous Steve Jobs-Apple logo, except with Sam’s silhouette in place of Mr Jobs’, which was found everywhere from the invitations to the seating board (well, mirror), and the matchboxes to the table-placings.
I have photographed many of Sam’s friends’ barmitzvahs over the years, not to mention his sisters’ batmitzvah, and knew the bar was set rather high. But they smashed it and then some, with such a warm, energetic atmosphere that didn’t let up the whole night.
The Israeli dancing was manic, chaotic, full throttle, and just a whole lot of fun, and even the silent disco in the middle of dinner had the dancefloor full…..a funny experience to observe without the headphones on.
Special mention to both of Sam’s grandpa’s, who both proved themselves worthy of an 8-Mile-style rap scene, as well as the Peter Pan-clad young gentlemen performing a song/speech.
But really, the night belonged to Sam and his family, and with the night closing while the dancefloor was still jam packed, it was a fitting end to an unbelievable night of celebration.
Here is but a selection of my images from the night:
