Melissa and Adam celebrated their incredible Jewish wedding at my old haunt, the Midland Hotel in Manchester.
However, that wasn’t the initial plan.
The happy couple’s wedding was actually supposed to be in a completely different hotel in Manchester city centre, but just one week away from their wedding they got a call that, frankly, no bride wants to receive….the ceiling of their venue had collapsed and was completely out of commission.
Step forward Ben Morrison, of We Are Events, who somehow managed to pull together an entire wedding in a completely different venue with just a week to get everything planned, sorted, finalised and set up.
Proving more than his worth many times over, and thanks to Ben’s expertise, on the day itself you’d never have known the turmoil of the previous week.
My day began early, snapping away at the busy bridal prep, with lots of bridesmaids, family and friends coming and going at various times.
Adam’s groom prep was a particularly chilled affair with all his groomsmen and, once the bow ties were on and the buttonhole flowers in place, it was on to the tish before catching up with Melissa again at the bedeken.
The ceremony itself was beautiful, with the chuppah beautifully decorated by Mirelle of Flowers by Mirelle, and afterwards, due to reasons that I’ve since forgotten, we had to make the 5 minute walk to the original venue to sign their wedding certificate, before heading back again for a few quick family photographs.
And then we hit the dancefloor.
If you’ve never been to a Jewish wedding before, the dancing can be quite an experience, and at Melissa and Adam’s, it was all that and then some.
With so much action going on in every direction, I had my work cut out for me and I think its fair to say I left the dancefloor at the end of that first set a rather sweaty mess. Sorry for the visual image.
The speeches throughout the evening were great, and I was delighted to see a childhood hero of mine in Karl Kennedy from Neighbours (yes, that Karl Kennedy from Neighbours) making an appearance via video screen to wish the newlyweds well on their special day. A special moment for Adam in particular, if his best man is to be believed.
Special mention also to Jonny Cocktail and his team of party-loving bar staff, who bring an atmosphere all of their own to every event they cater for.
The night ended how the evening started, with lots of dancing, spinning, jumping, twirling, hoisting on chairs, skipping and singing.
Another huge, huge mazal tov to the very happy couple!
