Merrydale Manor Wedding Day Timeline | A Photographer's Guide

Wedding Timelines at Merrydale Manor

Timelines matter more at some venues than others. At Merrydale Manor, the day flows well by design…the spaces connect, transitions are short, and the team there are experienced enough to keep things moving without you needing to micromanage. But photography still has its own logic: light changes, moments don't wait, and a schedule that doesn't account for these things will cost you photographs you didn't know you were going to miss. This is how I'd approach a day at Merrydale Manor.

Suggested Timeline for a Merrydale Manor Wedding

This is a guide based on a typical ceremony start of 2pm. Adjust proportionally for morning ceremonies or later starts.

10:30am - Photographer arrives for bridal prep

The makeup suite at Merrydale Manor is one of the better prep spaces I work in. Six stations, good natural light, a lounge area, and a staircase. I want to arrive with time to let the morning settle, not to photograph a finished version of the morning, but the actual thing…the details, the atmosphere, the way the room feels before everyone is ready.

10:30am–12pm - Bridal prep coverage and detail photographs

Dress, jewellery, flowers, the space itself. While makeup and hair are finishing, there's time for the quieter detail work and for capturing the natural rhythms of the room…the conversation, the nerves, the laughter.

12pm-1pm - Groom and groomsmen coverage

The Cave is worth photographing. The relaxed setup and the vintage arcade games give the groom and groomsmen something to actually do, which means the photographs feel natural rather than posed.

1pm - The staircase moment

The dress reveal on the makeup suite staircase. This needs space in the schedule, not long, but enough that it's not rushed. It's one of the most consistently powerful moments of a Merrydale Manor day, and it happens once.

1:30pm - Guests arriving, ceremony room

I'll move through the arriving guests and the room before the ceremony starts. The ceremony room at Merrydale Manor is already well-lit and composed…taking a few minutes to photograph it empty before it fills is always worthwhile.

2:00pm - Ceremony

The room's layout keeps guests close to the couple, which helps. I work without flash during the ceremony wherever possible, using the natural light from the windows. I stay unobtrusive, moving only when there's a clear reason to, and staying still for the moments that matter.

2:30–3:00pm - Confetti run

Immediately after the ceremony, guests gather outside. The confetti run at Merrydale Manor is well-positioned…there's space for guests to line up properly, which gives the couple room to walk through rather than fight through. Worth getting everyone organised quickly while the energy from the ceremony is still there.

3:00–4:30pm - Drinks reception on the terrace and lawn

This is where the day opens up. Guests spread across the terrace and lawn, and there's space for real candid coverage…people finding each other, the first relaxed conversations, the atmosphere loosening.

Family portraits happen here, on the lawn, while guests are already gathered. Keep the list short and have someone from the family ready to help coordinate. With a clear list and good organisation, this takes twenty to thirty minutes, no longer.

4:00–4:30pm - Couple portraits (first set)

A brief step away during the drinks reception for the first set of couple portraits at the pond and jetty. Twenty to thirty minutes is enough. The drinks reception carries on without you, guests don't notice you've gone, and you return with a strong set of photographs from the day's best outdoor location.

5:00pm - Wedding breakfast

Guests move into the function suite. The large windows overlooking the gardens and lake create a soft, pleasant light for the early part of the meal. Table details, the room as guests settle, the shift in atmosphere from the outdoor afternoon to the indoor evening.

5:30–6:30pm - Speeches

The layout of the function suite keeps guests connected to the speakers. Reactions carry well…laughter, tears, the moments in between. I move through the room during speeches, working with the available light or flash and staying out of sightlines.

6:30–7:00pm (summer) / 4:30–5:00pm (winter) - Golden hour couple portraits

The single most important scheduling decision at Merrydale Manor. The pond and jetty at golden hour, in the right light, is the strongest photographic moment the venue offers. Even fifteen minutes here - slipping out between speeches and the first dance - gives you a second set of portraits that feel completely different from the afternoon ones.

Build this into the schedule. It's worth it.

8:00pm - First dance

The function suite makes the transition from dinner to dancing well. Once the first dance starts, the room tends to find its own energy quickly.

8:00–10:00pm+ - Evening coverage

The dance floor at Merrydale Manor stays full when it gets going. This is where flash work earns its place…keeping the energy of the room while still producing photographs that are sharp and well-exposed. Movement, music, personality. The day ends the way it should.
