Janna Restaurant Macclesfield: Commercial Photography Behind the Scenes
Good commercial photography should show more than what a business looks like.
It should communicate what the business feels like.
That's what I was asked to capture during a recent photography shoot for Janna Restaurant in Macclesfield, photographing the restaurant's interior, details and kitchen team as they prepared food behind the scenes.
Rather than simply creating a collection of photographs of the restaurant, the aim was to capture the environment, the people and the attention to detail that make the business what it is.
Commercial Photography for Janna Restaurant
Restaurants have a huge amount to communicate visually.
There's the space itself, the design and atmosphere, the food, the people behind it and the experience customers can expect when they walk through the door.
For this shoot, I photographed different aspects of Janna Restaurant with that in mind.
The images included:
The restaurant layout and interior
Architectural and design details
Tables and dining areas
The kitchen environment
Kitchen staff preparing food
Behind-the-scenes moments
Details that help communicate the restaurant's identity
The result is a collection of images that can be used across the business's marketing, website, social media and other promotional material.
Photographing the Restaurant Interior
The restaurant itself was an important part of the shoot.
Rather than photographing empty rooms simply as an architectural record, I wanted the images to give a sense of the environment customers experience when they visit.
That meant looking at the overall layout as well as smaller details.
Restaurant photography can be particularly useful for businesses launching a new venue, refreshing their website, promoting a new location or simply bringing their existing marketing imagery up to date.
Professional interior photography gives potential customers an immediate impression of the space before they've even visited.
Behind the Scenes in the Kitchen
One of the most interesting parts of the shoot was photographing the kitchen team at work.
Behind-the-scenes photography gives a business something that polished interior photographs can't provide: people.
The kitchen staff were photographed preparing food and working in the kitchen, creating natural images that show the skill, teamwork and activity happening behind the scenes.
These photographs can be particularly valuable for social media and marketing because they give customers a glimpse behind the finished product.
They also help put faces to the business.
Why Businesses Need More Than Headshots
Corporate photography isn't just about headshots.
For many businesses, particularly hospitality, retail, professional services and other customer-facing organisations, there's a story to tell beyond the people who work there.
That might include:
The working environment
Products and services
Staff at work
Customer-facing spaces
Behind-the-scenes activity
Brand details
Processes and craftsmanship
These photographs can then be used throughout a company's website, social media, advertising, PR, brochures, presentations and other marketing.
A single commercial photography shoot can therefore create a substantial library of useful visual content.
Photography for Hospitality Businesses
Restaurants, bars, hotels and other hospitality businesses rely heavily on visual presentation.
Potential customers want to see what a place looks like, but they also want to get a feeling for it.
That's where professional hospitality photography can make a difference.
For a restaurant, useful photography might include the interior, food, staff, chefs, kitchen, exterior, atmosphere and smaller details that communicate the character of the venue.
The exact mix depends on what the business needs the images to achieve.
